How to use Media on other servers

Introduction

It is possible to use media files hosted with other Web Hosting companies within the CMS.  If the file can be accessed via a URL, it can be used in the CMS as if it was part of the Media Library.

Adding Files

When adding media files via the Media Manager, Articles, Sermons or other modules, simply click on 'or enter URL' and you will be prompted to enter a URL instead of uploading a file.

Limitations

It should be noted that although this is a powerful feature, there are some limitations:

 

  • The CMS is not able to optimize the image or audio file pointed to by the URL - it needs to be added as is.
  • The availability of the media file is beyond the CMS's control.  This means that if for some reason the file disappears or the connection to the web host is lost, the file will not be available to the CMS or site anymore.
