Do Not Track (DNT) is a setting that sends a signal to web applications to request that they not track this individual user. There is currently nothing in place that requires web services to honor this request and as such is up to the platform you are accessing to honor it or not. But many, such as Google Analytics, do.
Below is info on each popular operating system on how to turn DNT on/off.
Desktop/Laptop
Google Chrome v62 (Mac/Windows)
- Open Google Chrome and select the 3-dot "tools" menu icon in the top right
- Select Settings
- Scroll down and select Advanced
- The Privacy and Security section should be the first section in the advanced area
- In this section you will see a setting "Send a "Do Not Track" request with your browsing traffic" turn this setting on/off to enable or disable DNT
Mozilla Firefox v57 (Mac/Windows)
- Open Mozilla Firefox and select hamburger "tools" menu in the top right
- Select Preferences (Mac) or Options (Windows)
- Select the Privacy & Security tab on the left side
- Scroll down till you get to the section on Tracking Protection, DNT setting can be adjusted here
MacOS Safari v11 (Mac)
- Open Safari on MacOS and select Safari in the menu at the top left of the screen
- Select Preferences...
- Navigate to the Privacy tab
- Check or uncheck "Ask websites not to track me" whether you want DNT on or off
Internet Explorer v11 (Windows)
- Open Internet Explorer and select the "tools" button signified by a little gear in the top right
- Select Safety
- Select Turn off Do Not Track requests or Turn on Do Not Track requests depending on your preference and needs
Opera v49 (Mac/Windows)
- Open Opera and go to Preferences... (MacOS) or Settings (Windows)
- Select the Privacy & Security tab on the left side
- Under the Privacy section uncheck or check Send a ‘Do Not Track’ request with your browsing traffic depending on your preferences and needs
